SOUND HEALING & SOUND BATH

We use Sound Healing and Sound Baths as a way of using the vibration of specific sounds to relax and heal the body. A Sound Bath has many beneficial and restorative side effects. Even though, it may be done for mainly relaxation purposes.  Whereas, a Sound Healing is often done while holding a specific healing intention. Ancient Egyptians, Tibetans, and Australian Aborigines used sound, music, and chanting to heal the sick, dating back thousands of years. The Australian Aborigines have been using the didgeridoo for healing dating back 40,000 years.

A sound bath or sound healing will induce participants into deep states of relaxation and peace. Stress causes our brain waves to move into high Beta brain waves. This can be stress of any kind; physically, mentally, or emotionally. When we participate in a Sound Healing or Sound Bath our brainwaves shift from high Beta into Alpha and sometimes into Theta brain waves. Consequently, we begin to experience a more calm, peaceful, harmonious, and meditative state of being.  Exciting research into brain waves is revealing how we can affect our own experience with the use of sound.

How does Sound Healing Work?

First, let’s consider that what we think of as solid is actually not very solid at all.  Our bodies are made up of very small amounts of matter and lots of space. We are mostly infinitesimal particles of vibrating energy.  These particles vibrate together to form a congruent whole.  Physics tells us that vibrations affect each other.   Therefore, it makes logical sense that we would be affected by the vibration of sound. Disease begins at the most subtle energy levels of our system. When our energy is out of balance for too long, we begin to become unhealthy. That’s why, when we take time to align our vibration with a Sound Healing, shifts in our health can happen naturally and we feel better.

Gong Bath

A Gong Bath is a very beautiful and powerful type of Sound Healing. There can be one gong or several gongs used in a Gong Bath. In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, the gong is very important.  The sound vibration of the gong is deeply healing and will bring our whole system into balance and harmony, according to Kundalini Yoga philosophy.

How is this possible?

The Gong makes many different, complex sound vibrations and overtones. At the beginning of a session, the mind tries to listen to and track the different sounds.  Eventually, the complexity becomes overwhelming and the mind let’s go of trying. This letting go signals a shift out of Beta brain waves.

Beta brain waves happen when we are thinking and problem-solving. Whereas, High Beta brain waves happen when we are stressed and worried. When we shift out of Beta, we move into Alpha or Theta brain waves. Alpha brain waves happen when we are relaxed and the mind is quiet. Theta brain waves are associated with deep meditation.

So, when we experience a Gong Bath, the mind relaxes and we move into a state of deep relaxation and meditation, effortlessly. That is the beauty of a Gong Bath or any Sound Healing, it is effortless. You simply lie or sit comfortably and let the sounds wash over you.

One of our students, who comes to our Gong events, will often bring her son. This young man is about 15 years old and has a hard time sleeping.  At the end of the event, he is deeply relaxed and slow to rouse.  He falls into a sound and restful sleep for the night, after arriving home
